Vejjasala Project

Basics

For some time now an awareness has been growing of the great benefits that can arise from the use of meditation and other natural healing practices in extending the life-expectancy and improving the quality of life of those living with a serious or life threatening illness.
The primary long term goal of the Association of Engaged Buddhists is to establish a unique healing centre - the Vejjasala Centre -to help those living with a serious or life threatening illness.
In the early Buddhist Suttas Vejjasala is the Pali word for a place of healing. We do not seek to replace conventional medical treatment but to complement it, by helping individuals develop their capacity for peacefulness, happiness and self-healing.
This centre will provide the following services:
- Accommodation for those living with a serious illness to discover the healing power of meditation and other natural healing practices/therapies
- Meditation instruction either on a personal level or in the context of specific retreats/workshops addressing the variety of issues arising from illness
- Establishment o a larger monastic and lay community to teach and train in working with healing practices.

The new centre will be administered by a resident community of monks, nuns and lay members of the Association and will be made available to anyone in need - Buddhist and non Buddhist alike. The centre will function under the guidance of Venerable Tejadhammo Bhikku, an Australian monk who has worked and studied extensively in this field in Australia and overseas.

While a significant start has been made in raising the necessary funds for this important project, your help is needed to see it to fruition.
